The Western Cape has a different climate with very little rain in summer. Grape vines have shallow resistance to diseases that are encouraged by high humidity. As the grapes get into the last lap of the ripening process, the skins soften and rainfall can launch an avalanche of rot.
What’s needed is clear blue skies and lots of sunshine. That’s the Cape in summer.
